“ The Splendid and the Vile” is a wonderful blend of nonfiction’s accuracy and historical fiction’s sense of place.
I have read a few nonfiction and many historical fiction books set during the war. Like most Americans my age, I grew up hearing a few World War II stories from uncles, as well as learning about the war in school. The audiobook is read by award-winning British narrator John Lee, who does a fine Churchill voice.
